The author debuts her first book of old wives’ tales in fifty-seven colourful and vivid illustrations. These humorous tales passed down from generations in her family lineage are about premonitions, relationships, pregnancy, death, health, misfortune, and fortune.

“I grew up being told not to sit too close to the TV or you’ll go blind, you can’t swim after eating, that chicken soup will cure a cold, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, never go to bed angry, and many more,” she said. “Many of these superstitions and old wives’ tales defined my childhood and unintentionally, I find myself passing them on to the younger generation in my family today.”
“Though generally today we are sceptical of taking advice from old adages that have no distinct origin, there are some sayings that are more science than silly, and I wanted to explore and celebrate some of the wondrous tales that are still passed around today”, Sarah said.

Sarah Klain is a Sydneysider and grew up by the water in Bondi Beach. After three decades of being raised with superstitions and old wives’ tales, she finally decided to share her strange customs with the world.
